Maylin Patu

Maylin was elected as a Trustee for Te Kāhui Maru in 2023

Maylin, like many others, grew up in Waitara and was educated locally at Waitara Central, Manukorihi and Waitara High School. Maylin was briefly involved in Ngāti Maru iwi matters back in the 1990’s before he moved away to pursue a tertiary education.

Initially this journey began at Te Kura Matatini o Taranaki and culminated in completing his undergraduate studies with a Law degree from Victoria University in Wellington. Since then, he has been working within Te Taari Taake (Inland Revenue) which has involved sharing insights and knowledge of Te Ao Māori perspectives for the betterment of all.

Maylin is committed to bringing home the skills and knowledge that he has attained and utilising this to help build a better future for us all. This will include the further revitalisation of our reo, our tikanga and the things that make us uniquely Maru.

Maylin’s aspirations is to focus on the important things in life, namely whānau and people. As a Trustee Maylin aims to help strengthen connections between uri, no matter where you may reside; to help remove barriers that may prevent our collective Marutanga shining brightly and how we can build upon our historical stories and create memories and stories for the future.
