To re-vitalise our Marutanga – our identity and cultural being, through:

Improvement and maintenance of marae infrastructure;

The sharing of our Ngāti Maru history and experience

Return of and access to Ngāti Maru taonga including historical documents and media footage; and

Establishment of a suite of programmes which are resourced to support the ongoing acquisition, awareness and protection of Te Reo o Taranaki me ona tikanga.

  • Training and development have been identified during the Aspirations Hui as a means to advancing the well-being of future generations.

  • A Te Reo revitalisation programme (Ruia Te Purapura) has been developed to implement in the home.

  • Wānanga will be developed and held for Ngāti Maru uri to reconnect with their Marutanga.

  • Our Gap Filling research has described the breadth of Ngāti Maru’s presence and activities on the landscape.

  • The Historical Account is written co-jointly by Ngāti Maru and the Crown. It tells the story of the relationship between both parties over the past 200 years.

  • A Digital History Library that all Ngāti Maru will have access to is being developed to record and preserve the unique stories of Ngāti Maru iwi.
