Brenda is presently employed by Te Kōhanga Reo o Ngā Pekanga as Head Kaiako and by Norfolk Lodge Rest Home & Dementia Unit as a Health Care Assistant Level 4, Work Place Assessor, Trainer, and Diversional Therapist.
She has worked in education for more than 30 years and has a background in both business management and education.
Following a brief hiatus, she has been an active Responsible Trustee for the Marae for the past four years, spearheading the massive construction projects and redevelopment projects that have been undertaken on our Marae to date. She initially became a Trustee on the Ngāti Maruwharanui Pukehou Trust when she was eighteen years old.
To support a sustainable, healthy, and vibrant Ngāti Maru tribe, she is engaged in communicating with Funding Partners and building partnerships with the Council, neighbours, and other networks which support the enhancement of Ngāti Maru and Te Upoko o Te Whenua Marae.
As a Trustee for Te Kāhui Maru, Brenda’s aspirations are focused on the advancement of Ngāti Maru in all areas of life, and she will advocate for all Iwi initiatives that support Maru educational objectives, revitalising our Maru kids camps, which she assisted in founding in the 1980s, promoting cultural connectivity, and ensuring Maru leadership succession.
