Karl Burrows
Karl works for Tourism New Zealand as General Manager Pou Ārahi Māori and is on the senior leadership team. He trained and worked as a lawyer practicing commercial and property law in Taranaki and London. He has an LLB from Otago University and an MBA from Cranfield University in the UK. He owns a UK based business, Manaia – a professional haka group and a training consultancy specialising in team cohesion for professional teams. He is on the Māori Advisory Group for New Zealand Story Group and represents Tourism New Zealand on Te Kahui Tautiaki, the Tiaki Governance Group.
Karl has been involved in Ngāti Maru kaupapa for many yers, including as trustee and negotiator for our Treaty claim. As a trustee he wants to ensure we have accountability for iwi assets while also focussing on building our cultural capability. He says it’s important that we all have sense of connection and pride to Maru and ensure our future generations are equipped to lead us to our success.
Karl is married to May Lee and has 4 children, Kimiora, Tira, Kahu and Aotea.
