Ngāti Maru Settlement Bill First Reading
On Tuesday 6 July the Ngāti Maru Claim Settlement Bill, Te Hiringa Taketake will receive its first reading in Parliament and we would like to warmly invite all uri of Ngāti Maru to join us for part or all of the proceedings, which are as follows:
6.00am Bus departs from New Plymouth
12.00pm Ngāti Maru arrive at Parliament
12.15pm Ngāti Maru photo on the steps of Parliament
12.30pm Ngāti Maru proceed through security and are ushered up to the Banquet Hall
1.00pm Mihi whakatau/Pōwhiri
1.30pm Lunch
2.45pm Ngāti Maru ushered to the public gallery
3.00pm First reading of the Ngāti Maru (Taranaki) Claims Settlement Bill
5.30pm Ngāti Maru depart

Deed of Settlement Signing
The last Taranaki iwi to settle with the Crown has signed its deed of settlement putting to rest its historical grievances. Ngāti Maru made a call last week to downsize the milestone event to keep their people safe in a post-Covid era but they plan to mark the occasion properly in due course.
